god, she really is a moron. am i sure this is the school i want to go to? not only is there a problem with my registration already, but this moron was, at one point. president of some sort of class council. actually, on second thought, maybe i am needed at NYU to teach them about damage control, because this website hurts, rather than helps, her case. it almost reads like one of those crazy peoples' website where they ramble on about having micro transmitters in their teeth and that bees are spies for the king of england. then again, as the saying goes, just because you are paranoid, it doesn't mean no one is following you.

Wow Am I Prophetic

i guess i cant really prove it (just like like joseph smith) but on my walk to work this morning i was wondering what would happen if the red hot aaron rowand batted in the two hole while the slumping victorinio was moved to the back of the lineup. and you know what? that is just what the phillies did last night. rowand batted 2 and victorino hit 7. and they won. rowand was 2-4 and shane was 0-1, but was left on base twice. i think this is a good move by charlie, especially while rowand is so hot. it makes things so much easier for jimmy and chase.

NOW WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH RYAN HOWARD?!? i mean, its not like last year was a fluke. he had a killer 2005. he IS the player he was those two years, but jeez, what the hell is going on? i wonder if a player like frank thomas, jim thome, albert pujols, and the other marquee first basemen of this era ever went though something like this. if they did, that would give me hope. my faith in the great one is starting to falter. i do not want to lose my faith.

but, hey, a win is a win. we finally beat the braves. monkey off our back.

5/1/93

today marks the 14th anniversary of 5/1/93 and marks the beginning of one of the best 7 show runs in phishistory, which laid the groundwork for the amazing 8/93 run just a few months later.

i really like '93, and especially 5/93 and 8/93 and 12/93. '93 had a really clean, crisp sound which progressed past the '92 sound and was the precursor to the '94 sound. in recent months, '93 has passed '97 as my favorite year in phish. the band was still on the rise and they were kicking ass and taking names. they still had their "old phish" chops but were beginning to push the boundaries of what was possible with their music. 5/1/93 was a perfect example of this.

the first set is standard '93 (which is not to mean ordinary or dull, but rather what could be expected for a first set) with a jim, foam, guelah, melt, fee, rift, sample, ice, glide, and bowie to close the set. everything you could want from a first set, the perfect mix of energy, jams, standards, and fun. the second set picks up right where the first let off with a chalkdust, fluffhead, my friend to open. i love '93 my friends when trey would play the intro on his acoustic then switch to the electric midway through. the acousic sounds excellent on the opening. my friend is followed by a coil, BBJ>comet>paul and silas (another '93 standout), but the real highlight is the mikes>great gig>weekapaug. the great gig is just awesome and totally unexpected, complete with fishman on the vacuum. a solid cavern to close the set and a carolina, rocky top encore sent the crowd home happy.

man, do i wish i could have been there, especially since the show was played at the tower theater in upper darby. fortunately, the tapes (i still call them tapes even though they are all on CD or in digital form now. XLII memories die hard) still exist for all of us to enjoy.

Beating the Bad Teams Is One Thing

but beating the good teams is another. the phils have been on something of a hot streak recently, and before last night they won 7 of their last 9, but this being the phillies, i could still hear the nay-sayers claim "yeah, but that was against houston, washington, and florida - all really crappy teams", and i, for one, wanting to believe in this team, tried not to listen. but you know what? they were right. we lost to the braves last night which brings us to 0-4 against them and 1-4 against the mets. can't win a division, let alone the wild card if you are a combined 1-8 against the two teams whom you are trying to pass in the standings. the season is still young, and ryan howard may finally be showing some signs of life, but this is something to be concerned with. hopefully tonight, with cole hamels going up against some dude named redman with a 0-3 record and 10+ ERA, we can start to even the score just a little.

Tribute Tuesday

i am finally going to get this started. my first victim: laura osterman.

the good news about laura leaving DC is that she too is headed to new york. the bad news (for her) is that i will be there too. she is going to pursue a degree in education of some sort of columbia. speaking of columbia, do i have to automatically hate that school because i go to NYU, just like kids who go to GW have to hate georgetown? if so, columbia, you suck. but back to laura. i can hardly think of another person out there i would rather teach a young child than laura. someone who is kind and sweet and has patience that could last forever. that is the kind of person laura is. i don't think i have ever seen her get even remotely mad at anyone or anything. laura also appreciates good music, so i know i will have at least one concert buddy in new york.

so, here's to you, laura. best wishes at that evil school you are going to.
